What would you expect from a site that facilitates “internet girlfriends?
” Maybe a place where creepy or douchebag guys troll you for boob pics from behind the safety of their computer screens? This is the website My Girl Fund.com, where guys too busy for real relationships go on just to talk, to fill an emotional need, and they pay you for it.
The fact is that the internet will always harbor those kinds of guys, but what you might not expect are normal guys who go on just to talk, who develop real relationships purely over the internet and never in person. Women text or video chat with men who “contribute,” or basically pay you for being their internet girlfriend.
CEO Brian Gross founded My Girl Fund six years ago.He told Business Insider, “Guys send girls money whether it’s for content or simply to be a nice, generous guy. We’ve heard of them helping pay for things from tuition to speeding tickets.” With about 8,200 women and 15,000 new men who sign up each month, they buy credits for a dollar each to exchange on the site.Because there are so many more men joining the site than there are women, female users take to marketing themselves to men who will pay- one anonymous user claimed she makes ,000 to ,000 a year “working” full-time on the site. It’s an interesting experiment with a monetized social network.“I have two guys that tell me they love me throughout the day.
These are the people I can always count on and can talk to about anything,” user “Lauraleigh” told Business Insider. A lot of girls will chat with a guy and just push content.
Before she was on My Girl Fund, Lauraleigh served in the Army for two years, worked as a security guard for three, and is now pursuing a Ph D in Human Genome Studies. I never mention content unless they bring it up first.” By content, she means the pictures or videos that they exchange with users who pay using the credits on the site.
It’s up to the girls to decide how much they really show.
Another user, “Kandidreams,” shared her experience with Business Insider: “I certainly have a few [men] I talk to daily but some of them travel a good bit so it’s tougher to stay in touch. Then there are guys that just send you a message to tell you what they would like to get from you and that’s that. Personally, I love getting to know someone.” My Girl Fund makes for an interesting opportunity to virtually make a living from your computer, depending on how much you reveal and market yourself.
Some come back randomly throughout the year and pay for certain content and are off again doing who knows what, but others, we have real conversations — ‘How was your day? It shows that there really are some decent men out there who you can make a real connection to just by talking to them about their day, forming a lasting emotional relationship.
Then there is the aspect of them paying you through a kind of internet-emotional-prostitution.
